The recorder is much more than just the cream-coloured plastic whistle we used to play at school – it is the world’s most misunderstood instrument that can surprise us with its versatility. The golden age of the recorder was from the 16th to 18th century, but it is also a popular instrument for contemporary music. The public will get to enjoy the unique sound of a contrabass recorder combined with effects created through live electronics in a piece called Installation 2 by Tapani Rinne and in Eero Saunamäki’s own improvisation piece.

Eero Saunamäki is the most well-known professional recorder player, who has given the first public performance of dozens of works for the recorder and performed as a soloist for various symphony orchestras. Saunamäki works as a teacher at Uniarts Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy, and he also performs actively as a musician in various chamber ensembles. Saunamäki has showcased his recorder talents on records, in films, in a computer game, at the Finnish Independence Day Reception and on his personal YouTube channel. Besides playing the recorder, Saunamäki also sings and plays the saxophone in various ensembles.
